The word haptic, from the Greek: ἁπτικός (haptikos), means “pertaining to the sense of touch” and comes from the Greek verb ἅπτεσθαι haptesthai, meaning “to contact” or “to touch”.

Touch is a powerful sense. In technology, haptic feedback is a way to convey different information through vibrations, pulses or motion. This information can be added to smartphones, game controllers or any electronic devices with a user interface.

Haptic Feedback has been around since the late 1970, primarily in arcade games using Eccentric Rotating Mass (ERM) motors. Those vibrating game controllers were crude and basic.
